We’re About to Get PG-13 on You…

Today we’re talking fireworks, but not the kind you’ll see on the 4th of July. Earmuffs children, earmuffs.

PG13_feature It’s time to reclaim your sexy. We don’t touch on this subject a whole lot, but it deserves the spotlight, or at least a nightlight (wink, wink). More later on the real down and dirty, but we want you to know that if you’ve lost your groove, all is not lost and it’s time to get it back. Here’s the good news: more likely than not, it’s not you, it’s your hormones.  They’re just a little (or a lot) off balance. Loss of libido, dry as a desert or just plain old not feeling it in the bedroom… don’t settle ladies, this is not normal. But listen – this doesn’t make you abnormal. It’s quite the opposite, actually. Over 80% of women struggle with hormone imbalance – and this can manifest in many different ways:

  • PMS (not actually supposed to happen!)
  • mood swings
  • fatigue
  • premature aging (damn you, crow’s feet!)
  • stubborn weight around your midsection or weight loss resistance
  • headaches
  • poor sleep quality
  • low libido

None of this contributes to looking or feeling your best – and it certainly won’t help you in the sack. It’s time to get the juices flowing, a la When Harry Met Sally, only you won’t be faking it. And more good news: it isn’t nearly as complicated as you might think. Here are just a few tips that make a BIG difference

  • Cut out the processed sugar: Yes this is a lot easier said than done, but give it a few weeks and you will notice some major differences in how you look and feel, and when you look and feel good, well you’re highly likely to feel ready to get frisky, amiright? We’ve got some amazing recipes in Get Balanced that will satisfy that sweet tooth without wreaking havoc on your hormone health.
  • Avoid endocrine disruptors: This could be a whole blog post in itself, because yikes…these guys are scary! In short, endocrine disruptors are chemicals that mimic a natural hormone and fool your body into over responding or responding at inappropriate times. The consequences are no joke; they are thought to be associated with everything from brain development problems to cancer. Endocrine disruptors can be found many household products including cleaning products and cosmetics. Some of our favorite safe products include: Crunchy Betty’s Kokomo Deodorant, Elizabeth Dehn for One Love Organics Cleansing Oil, and broad spectrum SPF from Beauty Counter. Paying attention to what you put ON your body is elemental to overall health.  Chemicals – you gotsta go.
  • RELAX: begin carving out at least 10-15 minutes a day to meditate or calm your body with deep breathing. Stress will do a real number on your cortisol production levels – and you don’t want to mess around with your cortisol! Practice relaxing (it is a practice!), and watch one of our favorite TED Talks about how to make friends with stress.
  • Make the natural adapotgenic {balancing} plant maca your BFF: Just do it. You will not be disappointed and neither will your sex life. Bow chicka wow wow!
