Real Talk with MPS Greats about Life, Health & Reset: 14

Ready. Set. Go?  Well, close.  READY. SET. RESET.  Yep, you heard it.  Ever try channeling that little button that could take back something you said, reverse a shitty day or the 5 lbs that rudely invited themselves on your rear?  We hear ya.  We’ve been there. We love the word reset, it has a fresh feel to it, it’s like a welcome new beginning. What we also love is how we approach the idea of resetting.  We loathe the notion of ‘final meals’ or ‘extreme diets’… it just feels like failure from the get-go, doesn’t it?  We’ll save failure for something else, like golf.

Our approach: LIFE.  It happens and what we do with it is so, so important.  If you’re curious about this whole reset idea, check out our upcoming program Reset:14.  It’s our most popular program and it’s the last round of 2014!  Ahhhh – where did time go?

This round of Reset has serendipitously brought together some of the coolest cats in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.  We told them all that it’s like we planned it, because we’re brilliant (but no, we didn’t).  We’re just oh so happy to have them, and we thought what a great time to introduce them, learn a little more about their lives, what gets in the way of them feeling their best, and what they’re most excited about for Reset:14.  Our favorite part, part II – is that we are alike is so many ways.  Fast-paced lives, business owners, executives, sometimes let stress boss us around, love to feel great…but sometimes lack the energy to make it happen.  We know you’re not only going to love them and relate to them, but you might just want to join them.

What’s your favorite indulgence?
Pizza. I have a separate compartment that allows me to eat as much as I want and never get full.

What food do you feel the most fearful of giving up during Reset?
Do I have to give up eggs? I was told there’d be eggs! {she sure won’t}

Are there any foods you see directly show up on your skin (for better or worse), make you feel crappy, or wonder about the tie they have to you feeling your best?
I’ve had a mild case of psoriasis since college and have spent years trying to remedy it naturally. Thanks to a naturopath, I have it narrowed down to gluten, nuts and stress. I’m working on it!

Do you have a go-to superfood beauty booster?
My skin seems to glow the most when I’ve gotten plenty of sleep and have been abstaining from alcohol. So, it’s a very rare sighting.

If you had a magic wand for health/wellness – what would you make reality?
Three more hours in the day: one for sleeping, one for exercise, and one for grocery shopping and making amazing meals

What are you most looking forward to during Reset:14…or after
Learning something new about what I can do to stay energized and developing a toolkit to make it happen no matter how cray cray life gets.

What inspires you to eat well?
I’ve never regretted eating well. The benefits are physically, emotionally and spiritually guaranteed. It’s a positive feedback loop!

What gets in your way from making things happen?
Workload and stress eating!

What’s your favorite indulgence?
Truth time? Cheetos. Add in a glass of wine and it’s like my own little version of Heaven.

Are there any foods you see directly show up on your skin (for better or worse), make you feel crappy, or wonder about the tie they have to you feeling your best?
I already know that I have a love/hate relationship with gluten. I love it, it hates me. It shows up on my face in the form of acne, on my belly in the form of bloat and even hits my short term memory. I have – for the most part – cut it out of my lifestyle but this summer has been the summer of “I don’t care” and I haven’t been as careful as I should be so I’m thrilled for an opportunity to bid my love affair with baguettes buh-bye and to, literally, Reset my system.

Do you have a go-to superfood beauty booster?
Cold press juice. Three days of substituting juice for a meal or two and life starts making sense again.

If you had a magic wand for health/wellness – what would you make reality?
Cheetos as diet pills.

Fave indulgence?
My favorite indulgence. Oh so hard to answer, for example, I’m in the car on the way  home from a quick trip to Chicago devouring a Sprinkles coconut cupcake while writing this ;). Anyhoo, we’ll go with the obsession a.k.a. horrible habit of the moment, which is a half a pint of chocolate Hagen Daaz right before bed every night (or some other delish chocolate product). I have probs. First step is admitting you have one though, right?

What food do you feel the most fearful of giving up during Reset?
Chocolate and sugar in general. I love it. I crave it. I eat a lot of it. The good news: I did Reset back in June and felt so amazing that I’m not fearful so much as anxious to get jump started back into better habits. I had sustained a lot of what I learned throughout the summer, but in the last month have reacquainted myself with some of bad eating habits (three trips the Minnesota State Fair didn’t help that). Looking forward to next Monday in a big way.

Do you have a go-to superfood beauty booster?
I love a green smoothie and feel that when I consistently start my day with one that I not only feel better, but also look better. Operative word: consistently. Other fun fact: I am basically obsessed with my Vitamix, which takes smoothies and anything else you do with a blender to a whole other level.

If you had a magic wand for health/wellness – what would you make reality?
That the U.S. food system had better integrity in the production standards for our food, and made good food accessible to all.

What are you most looking forward to during Reset:14… or after?
Getting back on a routine that makes me feel good. I don’t feel awesome lately. Constantly tired and lacking energy.

What inspires you to eat well?
I like feeling good and having energy. This comes from a combination of eating well, exercising and getting good sleep.

What gets in your way from making things happen?
Stress. I have a busy schedule and sometimes the stress of that can cause me to fall into bad habits because I am strapped for time. Both eating well, or as good as I would if I had the time, and exercise slip. The key is making time no matter what. We’re all busy in different ways and there are areas that I can choose to dedicate time to (like planning and preparing meals and snacks) in order to stay balanced. It’s critical.

What’s your favorite indulgence?
I’m pretty sure that I am addicted to sugar! I don’t have “dessert” very often, but I crave it always. After I eat, I need to have something sweet. Usually I have greek yogurt with dark chocolate or an apple with peanut butter.

What are you most looking forward to during Reset:14…or after?
Just getting a chance to reset will be great. After having a baby a year ago I feel like I rely more on convenient, pre-packaged foods just as a time saver. Since my body has definitely changed, I can’t wait to get back on a healthy track that will hopefully help to support my workouts.

What gets in your way from making things happen?
Lack of sleep and “me time”. Toddlers are busy little things. I know that I need to take the time to plan my week of eating instead of winging it.

What’s your favorite indulgence?
I’m a sucker for carbs. I often crave a piece of french baguette or a yummy bowl of pasta! Oh, and a glass of red wine. It’s good for the heart, right?

Do you have a go-to superfood beauty booster?
Fresh pressed juice and foods pumped with antioxidants. I could totally live off of blueberries + greek yogurt for breakfast and salmon for dinner.

If you had a magic wand for health/wellness – what would you make reality?
Dedicating 3-4 nights a week to cook a good meal…and sticking to it!

What inspires you to eat well?
The effect it has on your mental emotional health. I love seeing the direct correlation between what you eat and how you feel!

What gets in your way from making things happen?
When it comes to eating healthy + working out…I’d have to say happy hour 😉 I love trying out new spots with friends! I’m also a baby when it comes to sleep. I swear I need at least 8 hours to function!

What’s your favorite indulgence?
Bread (with a side of olive oil) and cheese. Brick oven pizza and a light, fresh pasta are tied for second. All the above with a glass of wine… I have a thing for Italian food :).

Are there any foods you see directly show up on your skin (for better or worse), make you feel crappy, or wonder about the tie they have to you feeling your best?
Anything fried (State Fair style) gives me a stomach ache makes me feel lethargic. My skin certainly takes a turn for the worse.

What are you most looking forward to during Reset:14…or after?
Feeling more energized and creating healthy, sustainable habits!

What are you most looking forward to during Reset:14…or after?
To see if my skin clears up. I suffer from hormonal acne and a slight case of cystic acne at times. I’m 28 and ready to not feel like a 14 year old girl and ideally doing so by not using topical creams to cure my acne.

What inspires you to eat well?
My clients. I wish to fully practice what I preach and really make myself accountable to a well rounded healthy lifestyle – fitness can only take me so far.

What gets in your way from making things happen?
A face paced, in my car always, lifestyle…oh, and a husband who doesn’t LOVE eating the way he/we should.
